Through collaboration with state, funding, and strategic partners, the YMHC is building a scalable, community-driven solution to support youth mental health in historically underserved communities while building a pipeline of behavioral health professionals.
Where We Are Making a Difference
Since its launch in 2024 in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, and Texas, the Youth Mental Health Corps has deployed 1,000+ Corps members across 440 service sites, serving over 44,000 community members and young people.
Designed to scale nationally, YMHC is on track to expand to more than half of U.S. states by 2027 — reflecting a bipartisan commitment to meeting young people where they are: in schools, community centers, and health clinics, especially in regions with limited access to existing mental health resources.

Implementation States
Planning States
For the 2026-2027 school year, the Youth Mental Health Corps will be active in 16 states, with plans to expand to half the country by the following year.
Planning states are using this year to design their YMHC programs. They’re identifying local needs, forging partnerships, and shaping innovative new pathways into the field — from career exploration to certification.

State Service Commissions
State service commissions are helping lead a new approach to youth mental health support — one that connects service, workforce development, and community needs.
Through Youth Mental Health Corps, commissions can convene leaders across behavioral health, education, workforce, and community organizations to build solutions that are locally grounded and designed for long-term impact. The initiative operates in partnership with state service commissions, host organizations, and local leaders to ensure programs are community-driven, responsive to regional needs, and aligned with broader efforts to strengthen behavioral health infrastructure.
