In 2022, 29% of Minnesota’s students reported long-term mental health challenges. At the same time, the student-to-counselor ratio stood at 400:1, far above the recommended 250:1. That’s why Youth Mental Health Corps members like Jonah McCauley are essential in rural communities like Cloquet, Minnesota. During his service term, Jonah supported students across five sites: a middle school, high school, alternative school, local library, and restorative justice program. He is just one of more than 300 Corps members who have supported nearly 10,000 young people across four states during the first year of the Youth Mental Health Corps.
